Yes and no. The guide number and minimum flash duration establish the
theoretical range limits for the FLASH. However, the OTF flash control comes
from the camera. The OM-2N OTF flash control seems to have much more
latitude than the OM-4. At both extremes, the OM-4 seems to be unable to
determine and control exposure as well as the OM-2N. I presume the OM-2 has
the same control as the OM-2N without the viewfinder indication. John said
at close range, the OM-4 may not be able to cut off the flash when the OM-2N
can. My experience was at the other end where the OM-4 gave an underexposure
signal when the flash actually had power to spare. Both situations could
lead to overexposure although in my case I do not know. I do know the
camera's built in confirmation signal did not reflect the flash's
capability. The flashing confirmation signal may come from the flash in
either or both cameras, but John will have to answer that. If so, no blink
would indicate the flash completely discharged. If so, the OM-4 was
definitely overexposing. The discrepancy was several stops with my cameras.
