[OM] Exposure problems using two flashes on the OM-20

Subject: [OM] Exposure problems using two flashes on the OM-20

I have an old OM-20, which works perfectly, except when I'm using two flashes.

This is the problem:
I attach one T-20 flash to the hot-shoe on the camera and one (20-30 years
old) Braun flash throgh the PC connection. The Olympus flash is fired
horizontally (in the face), and I bounce the Braun from the ceiling. Both
flashes are set to auto (not TTL), and according to my theories, this
should be the best solution availible with this equipment. However, all the
pictures suffer from *severe* underexposure.

Used individually (in automatic mode) both flashes expose correctly.

Does anybody have any idea on what's wrong? Is the flash synchronization
circuit designed for one flash at the time? (But both flashes fire,
though?) When set to auto, do the flashes "kill" each other (i.e. measure
the light from the other one thinking it is a reflection from the object)?
