Although mercury batteries remain abundantly for sale here in Europe,
I faced an unexpected personal shortage a few months back. At that
moment I have put an old 357 silver cell in my OM-1. It fits rather
well in the compartment. The silver cell came from an OM-4 and had not
enough power left to operate in that, but the 1.33 volts it gave
seemed enough for my OM-1. It has been in there now for three months
(I had even forgotten I made this change), and the meter still reads
1.29 volts.
It seems this is a perfect way of prolonging the life of old 357's...

Now I come to think of it: there is a fair chance that an old 357 will
last longer doing its overwork in an OM-1 than an expensive new Wein
zinc-air cell, due to the latter's fast self-discharge...
