There is the concept in zoom lenses these days of the "Holy Trinity."
Three lenses that fill the kit and are the "go anywhere and
everywhere" set. The "holy" part means that they are the "best of"
that the manufacturer has.

I'm going to suggest that I might have found the slightly less "holy"
but still a rather impressive set. I wondered if I was going to be
disappointed that I didn't get the "best" but I'm certainly not
disappointed in the least.

I have two SONY bodies right now. The A7 Mk2 and the A9 Mk1. The A9 is
the camera that is now my "go to" camera. It's amazing, and I got it
secondhand for a very lovely price and it only had something like 300
shutter actuations.

The lenses? I've purchased three brand new lenses: The 20-70/4,
70-200/4, and 200-600. All G lenses. No overlap in focal lengths. The
70-200/4 is also a macro lens at all focal lengths. I'm extremely
impressed with the 70-200/4 and find it to be the most comfortable and
balanced tele-zoom I've ever used.

Anywho, the question of whether or not I should upgrade any of them to
the GM lenses? I really don't think so. These are sized right and have
the right weight. Well, the 200-600 is a beast, but that's to be
expected. The 20-70/4 even has decent bokeh.

As to sharpness? SONY is not disappointing. All three lenses are
maxing out the 24mp sensor. There is nothing more to give. If a lens
can be any sharper, it doesn't matter because it's already exceeding
the sensor. (I see no reason to get the "R" bodies because 24mp is my
personal sweet spot.

Just wanted to share my findings. I'm pretty certain that when it
comes time to choose between my 70-200/2.8 GM (mk1) and the 70-200/4 G
(mk2), I'll sell the 2.8.
