Seconding/thirding Moose and Nathan. Forgot to mention, I had a UK
number/SIM only for UK friends/family reaching me easily rather than
dialing "overseas". "Roam Like Home" is bad grammar and a good deal,
C$15 is much the same as US$10, of course.

I will go with His Mooseness’s recommendation. Brexit is the gift that keeps on
giving, so the free roaming within the EU no longer applies in the UK. Your best bet
is to look into the deals from your US provider. When we go to the US mainland, we do
not bother with e-sims etc., just relying on wifi and the occasional roaming. When we
go to Puerto Rico, we do buy a local e-sim because roaming there is ridiculously
expensive.

I looked into all this for a trip last Fall to England and Wales. All very
confusing and bemusing. Reviewers had differing ideas, etc. In the end, we just
used Verizon's $10 per day used option. Used it when needed for GPS, on one
phone only. Once started for a day, second phone used local hot spot from first
and we did what we needed. Every place we stayed had Wi-Fi and our phones have
call over internet option. So we were really connected adequately with few $10
days.
Really quite freeing, compared to past experiences.
Have a great trip!!

Heading to France, N. Italy, maybe Switzerland in Sep-Oct. and
wondering what is the recommended provider in the area? Had O2 the last
couple trips to Scotland but wasn't the best. Also will be in UK and
wonder what's the deal since brexit. Do I need a separate SIM? Just
looking at getting a prepaid monthly. My phone will take an eSIM but my
wife's won't. Both phones are dual physical SIM.
Separate question: What will the passes be like in Oct? Specifically
the Bolzano/Merano area. (My grandparents are from there).
Thanks,
Mike
