     I'm here, watching all sorts of weather.  Right now, the tropical storm 
picture for the northern Atlantic is a real mess:

     Looks like Bermuda will take a couple of hits in the next ten days.  The 
west coast will get some relief around the end of next week by way of a 
developing low pressure system.

     It's close to 8AM here, and we still can't see the sun due to smoke from 
California.  The haze has a slight brownish tint.

     We've had the hottest months on record here, being July and August.  The 
overall reason for this is a band of high pressure that spans from Taiwan to 
North Africa.  Twenty years or so ago this band was much further south and was 
responsible for our summer monsoon season by way of high pressure over central 
Mexico.  Now that high pressure sits right over us here in the southwest, 
raising our temperatures and pushing tropical moisture westward into the 
Pacific before reaching here.  It's also keeping the jet stream further north 
than normal, which further aggravates the temperature and dryness.
