Havasupai Falls is supposed to be quite spectacular, but on Indian land.

We drove the 60 miles from 66/40 to the parking lot, put on our backpacks and hiked in. We registered in the tiny town,
camped below the lower falls. No reservations, no crowding - 1970.
There are two big falls. Pic 4 gives some idea of scale; that's me on top, unaware that I'm not on solid ground. The big
tufa thingies at the top of the lower falls broke off a few years later. I gather flood years have moved the river bed

It IS an amazing place. The trail comes in from a side canyon. Go up just a little ways, and the main canyon is dry.
Then it starts to cut through the aquifer, the sand/gravel is wet, then a small stream, working its way to river. There
are holes like drain pipes along the bed where water shoots in.
The canyon along the river is like inland in the tropics, hot and humid, no breeze. Look up one level and there are a
few cacti. Next terrace is arid and without flora.
I'd like to be there with the camera gear I have now. Then was a Nikon Ftn with Nikkor 50/2. OTOH, I'm not doing that
hike now. At 25, skinny and in shape, in wasn't bad.
Out was hard. We were going to camp before the side canyon. But it was light, beautiful and quiet, so we went the rest
of the way out. The switchbacks up a cliff to parking were hell, at the end of 10 miles, all uphill. Elev gain ~ 2300 ft.
Of course, it's only been fifty years. :-)
