Hi Moose,

No glass involved except for lens elements.  I'm shooting through an open window between partially open shutters which serve as a blind.  This is the same setup I've been using for several weeks, with the camera 40 ft from the feeders.  The lens is the Leica Telyt-R 250/4.0 with the Leica-R 2X Extender at an indicated f/4.0.  The camera is the Fuji X-T2 at ISO 500.

I've observed that a local Red-Headed Woodpecker shows up at the feeders around 5 PM, so today I was waiting for him.  Sure enough, he showed up and I clicked away. I am posting what I felt was the best image I got.  And, for you pixel-peepers, I've given you a large image, but don't ask me to explain the light-colored edges on the front of the wings.  It is not a result of over-sharpening or over-processing.  It is there in the RAW images.  I checked more than one.

Nice birdie! We've had a Hairy woodpecker at our feeder, but it's been too shy to get a pic so far.

Perhaps Doug Herr has an answer.

See the blueish tinge on the right point of the white breast? Makes me wonder it it's red-cyan fringing. Huge, though, and the tools I have don't touch it.

Are you shooting through glass at an angle?
