Not what I mean, but what the writer meant. :-) And no, it was about eschewing 
chairs and such in daily life.

My first experience was in Tokyo, 1960. I stayed with a Japanese scout and his mother one night. It was a nice house, well appointed, but with what I have since learned is a pretty common Asian porcelain hole in the floor. They lived on a hill where there was apparently a lack of water/pressure? I did not know then how to flush them.

Now, it seems that the Japanese have the most complex, sophisticated, and 
expensive toilets in the world.

I probably couldn’t balance in place now :-)

I suspect I could, but haven't had to try. I am amazed at how cooperative or understanding my body is when I'm traveling, saving serous business for morning or evening.  I've encountered a lot, but . . .
