There’s reasonable common usage and unacceptable common usage, Mike. For
instance, when I learned French at school, I was taught that French signs in
capitals tended to omit accents; similarly street signs in the UK tend to omit
aspostrophes. Influenza used to be shortened to ‘flu, but now its merely flu.
But the meaning has not been affected.
Your example below demonstrated two examples of reasonable usage of language,
colloquially at least. I wouldn’t want to read "try and”, but it sounds normal
when spoken.
