Hi Jan,
Thanks for adding your input. I reviewed the entire series of images I
shot, and got a clear view of the top and back of the head. No red spot
visible. Gotta be a female.

Nice catch of a pretty bird - but - if it ain't black and white and red, it
ain't a woodpecker. ;-)
That was obviously a female. The males have red on them. :-)
