Ken, it's a very generous offer, and I appreciate it.  But, my doctors, who are my grandsons, along with a 25-yr association with the top cardiologist in Nashville, have kept watch and kept me going to this point.  I feel it best for me to stay fairly local, and get my thrills vicariously through friends like you.  Enjoy the opportunities that you find in life.  And keep  the shutter finger clicking!

Jim,

For you, I'd meet you at the airport and we'll chauffeur you anywhere
you want to go. Trust me, you can see pretty much everything you'd
ever imagine seeing within 20 feet of the car.

I read the AOPA article. He added a bit of extra grief for himself by
just not going ahead and making some of the legs IFR and running up
the altitude a bit. But that certainly wouldn't have been as fun or
interesting of an article.

The guy's first leg, taking him over the Lake Clark Pass, rightfully
nerve-wracking. It's almost fully paved with aircraft aluminum. It
takes just a few short minutes to fly through it, but it's narrow,
windy/rainy/foggy and has several sharp turns. Over recent years there
are guys that think you can punch through with a GPS route and end up
having the seat cushion surgically removed from their clenched cheeks.
Because of the venturi effect of how the wind channels through the
pass, the temperature drops, fog will appear at any time of the year
and rain will turn to ice. Those are the longest five minutes of your
life. Or the shortest. I was chatting with a pilot here at work and he
said that he'll never fly through that pass and will gladly take the
water route instead if ceilings don't allow him to go over the top.
