Another excellent analysis--rather subtle but clearly vignetting is present.
My crazy hood is worse. Whether it is worth automating correction with
Cornerfix, I don't know.

Nothing is worth converting ORF or RW2 to DNG, then finding a way forward.

Clear sky like that is a very tough test. How often will it matter in practice?

The vignetting correction tools in ACR/LR, PS and PTLens can be made to largely correct it. I say only largely because this particular lens and example of the autocap do not vignette evenly in all corners. Correct for LL, and the others are various amounts of too light, and vice versa.

The PTLens profile for correcting residual linear distortion from the auto correction in Viewer 3, ACR.LR, etc. may be the best simple auto solution, as it pushes the vignetting largely out of the corners into limbo. And, as I've shown before, does a great job of final distortion correction.

If one doesn't need auto correction of a lot of images, Simple manual application of the Healing Brush or Clone Tool fixes it up in seconds.

I think from what I read they referred to rubbing on the edge--plastic part as
best I could discern. They wished to avoid blemishes on the plastic.

LLaD! Yes, the rear of the cap seats against the name ring. I don't see any sign of damage after several mount/dismount cycles. Anyone who tightens it so much that it grinds, is courting mechanical damage to the cap, IMO.

So, take it off and on a lot (why??) in dusty, abrasive conditions, without care, and what does one - perhaps - lose? $10 in value? This is a kit lens, fairly common, and inexpensive.

Do they not notice that a spacing ring increases vignetting?

Having bought a GM1, GM5, then another GM5, when they were discontinued, I have three of these lenses. I keep them separated, so they won't breed in the gear drawers. :-)

FE rubbing would be a design death knell. I should have posted the link.

No matter.

Conditional MSA noted. I love 12mm for unclear reasons. The 12-32 has a fair
amount of its own vignetting that is ameliorated by metadata.

And very well, based on these shots.

When is a Moose
