Aaah, afraid of the vignetting. Thanks for the super analysis. Still an
ingenious thought and very Moose-like to try it. A perfect match for the
cam/lens. I read the Free-mod flavor of this autocap also does vignette a tad
at 12 and 13mm wide open.

I didn't know about this one - or did I see the price and just move on? :-)

I looked around about the JJC and no reports of vignetting

Not perfect, but way better than the Oly.

Different skies on different days, so I put today's 'clear' sky at the end. I
won't hesitate to use the JJC.

(In fairness, the Oly is designed and sold for a 14 mm lens.)

but it does rub the front of the lens.

Where do people get this stuff? Those little 'eyelids' close at least a couple of mm in front of the lens FE. And why would a fairly long term, semi(?) competent maker like JJC design such a thing?

On the manually extending 12-32, I can watch the blades v. closely with flashlight as I operate it. I didn't bother to stick a ruler in, but they are, in the context, "miles" away from the FE.

"Semi" above refers to the operation of this autocap. If it is balanced and closed, thread it onto an extended lens, and it works flawlessly, at least so far. OTOH, be curious and play with the little actuation levers, and it can get stuck in various in between states. One half was closed when I got it. It really doesn't like having the actuation levers pushed - except in exact balance.

I say this in part as warning, and in part about the "rubbing on the lens" claims. I don't think it would operate if it rubbed on the FE.

Some keep some sort of ring or filter on it to save the lens.

Just no idea . . . . . . Was there an early version?

Will await a full MSA (Moose seal of approval) or lack thereof.

The JJC is now on the 12-32 on the Air-01, and I expect to leave it there. If you look at the vignetted image without comparisons, it looks fine to me. I ain't gonna fret. The Oly one lives now on it's intended lens.

Yeah, MSA, with condition that it can be fiddly, if not used just right. If you are going to take it on and off a lot, and can't manage to lay it on its face or in a protective filter case, it may cause trouble.

Beats the heck out of a lens cap for casual, pocket, etc. use.

Shine light in those dark corners, Mike

Almost, Moose
