I cycled over to a traffic accident early this morning to take some
photos, which I will upload and comment on later. I took my spare E-500 with
me, and when I got there I found that the shutter speed control no longer
worked. I've been having some trouble with this body for a few years, and now
it has come to the point where I need to take matters in hand. Other symptoms
include the lack of a flash and the lack of indicators inside the viewer, which
indicates a dirty or loose connector at the top edge of the circuit board.

I have a set of very detailed instructions for removing the back of an
E-510, and the number of screws appears to be the same. When I open this up to
take care of the connector problem, I'm going to add a wire from the shutter
release to the micro-USB connector so that I can use a wired remote. There
were instructions for this online a few years ago, but they are no longer
available. It's pretty simple, just need a fine size of insulated stranded
wire.

I'm also going to shop around for another E-500 body. I prefer the E-500
as it lets you record both colour and B&W images in uncompressed TIF format.
