I have grown nandina from berries collected direct from the plants, they
took a long time to germinate (~1 year ?) though, perhaps passing through a
bird speeds up the process.

Nice image, Jim, of one of my favorite plants. Somewhere in my files are
Kodachrome images of snow covered Nandina berries after one of our very rare
Xmas snow flurries in Charleston. On a side note, I believe Nandina is one
of the plants whose seeds will not germinate unless they have passed through
a bird's GI tract.
