Its named for a district in Mexico City that had been a small town in the
19th Century. The American army fought a battle there against Mexico¹s
army during the Mexican War. The Indiana town was founded during the
Mexican War when two smaller towns located next to each other merged to
form a single town. They chose to name the new town for the Mexican town
whose name was in the news at the time because of that battle.
