To help n your search, Chris, herewith all the *ouse nouns in my dictionary
(excluding compounds containing one of the listed words):

scouse
lobscouse
house
louse
blouse
mouse
pampelmouse
rearmouse
dormouse
titmouse
burnouse
spouse
rouse
carouse
grouse
souse
touse

I admit, I cheated, as it is "Reverse Dictionary of Present-day English"
compiled by Lehnert, published in Leipzig in 1971 (yes, there are some
things that the GDR did that have continuing utility!) which will explain
the odd sequence of the words in the list - it *is* alphabetic, but in
reverse, per the title of the dictionary.

Now, who wants to know what other words in English end in -strophe, apart
from the (usually catastrophic) apostrophe?

Piers

The plural of mouse is mice.

The plural of grouse is grouse.

The plural of house is houses.

Are there any other examples?
