Thanks for your summary.

I'm pro Europe but also a liberal so I generally prefer the least
constricted laws to become EU standard, not the most...

A more positive view on the fuzz about this issue is that it illustrated
involvement of citizens in the EU parliament which I consider a positive
thing.

If it helped the (amount of) rejection of the amendment by the parliament,
I consider that positive as well. I've seen this rejection covered in
newspapers and internet news sites, so that might lead to some positive
feelings towards the EU as well. They sure can use some.
