I insist on using conduit for this very reason.

The stupidest thing I ever saw was in Munich where the chief engineer for
the major radio broadcaster there had the brilliant idea of running fiber
to each desk and studio. Great idea, right?

Because the building was leased and wasn't built with the intention of
actually being used for anything, there were no conduits between floors.
They actually had to place a conduit up the outside of the building.

Anyway, so this station engineer had the brilliant idea of jumping ahead of
technology and put in fiber to each desk. But without conduit, they cut a
groove in the concrete floors, put in the fiber and then concreted back
over them. Only then did they actually go around shopping for the digital
audio equipment to convert the stations over from analog to digital. LOL,
well, guess what. Nothing was available to do what he wanted to do. And
furthermore, the fiber he put in and the cards he was using quickly fell
out of favor and it's been a dead for at least 10 years now. But that fiber
is still stuck in the floors.

Oh, did I mention that the desks got rearranged too?

Long Live Conduit!
