Doesn't the sensor only need to move a fraction of the current sensor pitch
?

'Cause it's MY turn!
------------------------------

And 'cause Oly has for the history of µ4/3 cycled upgrades through the
different levels of their bodies, although not always exactly in order. That
means that new features are often in lower levels first. The E-M5 is now the
oldest level, so next due for update.

As I think about it, I think the 40 MP thing doesn't make sense. It seems to
mean a much higher base pixel count and/or greater sensor movement than I
would think the current system does. Haven't worked out all the details ...
But a quick calculation shows getting 40 MP through shifting the E-M5 sensor
requires about 10 mm of side to side movement of the sensor and 7.4 mm up
and down.

There sure doesn't look to be room for that in the E-M5 body. Just
eyeballing the sensor movement as I move the camera so the loose sensor
carrier when the camera is off moves to it's stops, I'd say little more than
1 mm, side to side, say
250 to 300 pixels.

I hope they don't go crazy on MP. I'd rather see the same or a modest
increase together with better noise characteristics.

Here's Hoping Moose
