Focus stacking is something I'm going to have to learn!!

No, no, I was just teasing saying focus stacking isn't image manipulation. This isn't "real" focus stacking, which can be fussy stuff. Let me illustrate. <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/MPhotos/BayArea/Miscellaneous/AngelMoon.htm>

I think the first two are pretty obvious.

For the third one, I put 2 in a layer above 1. As they were hand held, I needed to get the moon in the same place. Set layer opacity to 50% or so and move the top layer 'til the moon is over the one below. Opacity back to 100%, new mask for the layer, invert mask to black (CRTL-I) and paint over the moon with a white brush. Now both things are in focus.

Sometimes brightness isn't identical between shots, and brightness of one top
layer must be tweaked.

The final shot is true manipulation, although not the worst kind. A shot with the weather vane figure at a good angle, same time, same weather vane, same sky, same moon, but it's in a different part of the sky now. :-)

Anyone who thinks pros aren't doing this sort of thing on money shots is naive.

Chuck's technique should work for the sort of shot you took, although I don't entirely trust all them numbers, but won't work for this particular subject of mine.

The above technique is also, to me, way less fussy in the field with lenses with no DOF markings. It moves the fussing into the digital darkroom, assures the important subjects are in focus, and keeps me moving in the field. I'm sure it took less than a minute to take those shots, which were grabs on the way to a store when I noticed the juxtaposition of things. If the shot turns out not to be worth it, little time has been spent on it. If it is, the PS work is pretty simple and quick.
