This reminds me of a logging road in south eastern British Columbia we 
drove up in mid summer 1995 and seen here:

*The logging road was in active use ...... big 40 wheelers with upwards 
of 150,000 pound loads ....... during our drive up the hill in our 
diesel VW Jetta.
Total elevation gain from the highway to the parking lot's look out was 
>5,600 feet.
