So, basically, you've set it up as a dumbed down point-and-shoot.

Stay with the original post subject. :-)

Tina jumped on the Fuji bandwagon. She had a specific problem with the new camera, settings moving without her intent and screwing up her work.

I proposed that lots of buttons and dials aren't necessarily a good thing for every use, and gave an example of a camera which would have done what she needed without a problem. And honestly, all the noise aside, give as usable IQ.

As to dumbed down? Weeelll, if turning off things that get in the way, while leaving those needed readily usable is dumb, there are times where dumb is smart. :-)

Of course it will be in the same setting you left it because you've
defeated everything but the PHD button.

If I read you correctly, 'PHD button' is iAuto? That's not correct. When using it this way, I have it in Auto Aperture, with aperture and EV comp. settable on the rear controller. Left-right 'buttons' set EV, Up-down set aperture - actually rather intuitive, I think.

So, only the controls I want, immediately at hand, nothing else active that can
mis-set things. (And MF-AF on Fn1)

I also have an E-PL3, with mode dial. With all controls and the touch screen on, I tend to have exactly the sort of problems Tina describes when using it casually; grab out of pocket, bag, etc., point and shoot and Oops! The Mode sets itself at random sometimes.

Little thing can make a huge difference. The Mode dial on the GM1 is lower profile, with stiffer detents. I think it's only mis-set itself once.

I still maintain to my statement because of several basic premises.
The pro-grade bodies have traditionally been a bit less feature-laden
and the controls that are there are generally designed for
muscle-memory.

This is a different subject, raised by Chuck, not mine.
