It happens. Not only with cars, but also with big-ass lorries and even tour
buses, though I don't think they allow buses on this particular road.

As a rule, every 50-100 yards there's a lay-by on one side or the other. It's a
bit of pavement that's wider than the rest. The car closest to the lay-by on
the correct side pulls over, or backs up, or whatever. In this photo, you can
see where the pavement widens just a bit to the right. That's what passes for a
lay-by on this road. Our car was parked in a similar wide spot on our left,
behind the spot where I took the photo. Technically, using lay-bys for
photography is frowned upon, but I did it anyway. (We saw a total of four
police cars while in Scotland, one of them parked at the Killin Police Station.
It didn't move the two nights we were there.)

Once you get in the single-track rhythm, and if the person you're meeting knows
the rules, there's a kind of vehicular dance you do. If I do say so myself, I
got pretty good at it. My crowning achievement was meeting and passing by
another car, both of us doing about 25-30 miles per hour. The trick there was
the lay-bys were wider than usual, and on both sides of the road, exactly
opposite one another. At the last moment, I went my left and he went his left,
we grinned, waved, and moved on. I was stoked about that one for a good 10
miles. <g>
