I have wished for the same thing, Ken, that this feature could be available
on a modern EVF camera.
The C8080 definitely has it. When you are in MF mode, pressing the up or
down arrow moves a cursor along a scale and a magnified square allows you
to select the precise focus. It doesn't work well because there aren't
enough pixels, but the idea is great.
The Lummox FZ20 has a nicer version of this. Switch the lens to MF and the
magnified box opens and the focus collar on the lens allows you to focus
accurately -- again, with the understanding that there aren't enough pixels
really to be able to do this well. Still, it is probably my preferred way
to focus that camera since it makes it easier to zone focus and it is the
only way to shoot that camera fairly quickly.
