Chuck:
Cannot answer your mystery questions. My OM-D came with v1.5. I haven't
bothered to see what happens if the half-press is off (unanimous recommendation
on-line seems to be set to "on"). The IS does make a mild hum when operating.
As you've probably noted, my S-AF is configured with the shutter release, not
separately.

Thanks. The "slight noise" was a key and, later, realization that I can see in
the view screen when IS is operating since the image stays stable even though I
shift the camera around a bit.

What I've learned is that the half-press does nothing if IS is not turned on.
If the half-press is set then IS is not active unless the shutter button is at
least half pressed.

Now what I'm wondering is if IS is enabled when is IS actually active if the
half-press option is not enabled? Does it only operate during exposure?

And the final mystery. If, prior to the v1.5 firmware, the IS was always on
what was the function of the half-press enablement? Why would you activate the
IS if it was already on? Or did that function not exist before v1.5?
