1 is a Russian or Czech trainer. They are now showing up on the airshow and
fly-in circuits, so I suppose that it means that former eastern block
countries are looking for more ways to get hard currency. I presume that
they are a more affordable "warbird" for those priced out of the market of
US/Canadian/British stuff. The more affluent western countries were quicker
to get into the jet trainer business, but there are government limitations,
be they FAA, Air Force or Navy or all of the above. It’s interesting the
mental process. Once the CAF was closing in on a B-36 for their collection,
but the Air Force wouldn't allow it, as it remains classified a strategic
bomber, due to its range. Oh, well, at least the kid didn't attack the
Colorado theatre with one.
