That's sad, Chuck. I had the same thing happen to a white oak we had been
nurturing.

I put one of our home built tomato cages - a cylinder 0f  4" X 4" wire
fencing about 14"

in diameter and 48" tall - around it, and two years later its growing big
and tall.

There's no hope for the tulips they chomp though.

Only after a snow did we relize how close to the hous they come.. and how
many come!
