At our place in San Felipe, we use them as natural fence. Cut ocotillo
"branches", plant very close together in a row for the perimeter to be
fenced, water occasionally. Thorny as hell when dry, green pretty and
blooming (but still thorny!) when wet. Keeps out strays (horses, dogs,
people, etc)
