"...red meat causes bowel cancer" is much too strong a statement.  It's 
certainly a risk factor but that's all.  Otherwise most of us in the 
Western world would be contracting colon cancer (there is no association 
with rectal cancer).  The strongest association is genetic.  I attempted 
to discover the actual risk associated with red meat but couldn't find 
it other than behind a paywall.  Indians have a considerably lower risk 
or colorectal cancer than the rest of the world which might tend to 
implicate meat of any type but even that's an assumption not really 
warranted.
