Hi all. A very late follow-up...

Very lucky, indeed... This time, it was a clean fracture with no shards.
Not sure if it has something to do, but unless focused extremely close, the
X100 front element is relatively far from the filter -- which in turn is
attached to the outer, non-extending lens barrel.

OK, OK... but the hood basically terminates all of the camera's
"pockability" -- it's already too bad that the filter adapter is almost as
long as the lens itself! That's why I haven't used the (ridiculously
expensive) hood so far... On the other hand, the mandatory filter adapter
is "a bit of a hood" by itself...

Anyway, a word of caution about "proctecting" hoods on "modern" lenses...
helicoids are no longer built like they used to, thus an impact received
from the hood may damage it severely! However, the X100 filter attaches to
the outer lens barrel (via an adapter ring), the inner barrel (coupled to
the helicoid) is far and the impact would be sweetly damped thru the solid
magnesium alloy body -- or so I expect ;-)

That's what I had to do... a few scars remain on the adapter ring, but I'm
anyway happy with the results: <

Thanks to all for your advice! Best regards,
