What is this list coming to?


You "fork out" when the subject is the money and no destination is
clearly identified in the sentence. You "fork over" when the
destination is identified in the sentence.

I had to fork out $100 bucks to repair my tire.
I had to fork over $100 bucks to the auto repair shop to repair my tire.

Of course, I'm making this all up, but I'm struggling to fork up a
better explanation.
