[OM] (OM) OT Computing stuff

For a while I have been bothered about something(s) sucking bandwidth /
volume when I'm on line.

I have been able to control some un-necessary program interactions using
Bill P's "WinPatrol" which is a marvellous program.

Half an hour ago I decided to uninstall a program called "Total html
converter", and found that not all the components were removed in the
uninstall process. The remaining bit is a dll file of 425 kb named
axTotalConverter.dll, and Windows will not let me remove it or the (now
redundant) directory containing it, telling me that other programs need it.

I'm not favourably impressed by that ... I'm about to install a program called
regutility about which there are claims of being able to get rid of unwelcome
guests that don't show up in the scans by the usual malware and virus
programs.

Since I'm not aware of any legitimate activity that "axTotalConverter.dll"
should be doing, it is now a suspect relating to unauthorised internet activity.

I'd appreciate hearing from anybody who has met either of the programs (
for the moment calling a dll file a program) Apparently this (and other?) dll
files can be put to use by other programs with which it was not overtly
associated at time of original installation.
