If you only mail a couple of packages a year, it is natural to be worried.
I have friends who are paranoid about packages getting lost. The truth is
that packages rarely get lost.
For people, like myself, who mail a lot of packages, one idea is to be
self-insured. For example, let's say that I mail items worth $100 each. I
just charge $1 extra for shipping per package. So, if one every 100
packages gets lot, I am covered. The truth is that the rate of loss is
much smaller than that, maybe 1:1000.
I mail 100 packages a week average. It might have been 6 months since
something was reported lost. In this case, I cover the cost and I chalk it
off as a cost of doing business.

I do, of course.
I do not put insurance and rarely anything gets lost. Really expensive
items are shipped Priority, Express, or registered, so there is tracking.
