I worked at WHOI during summers when I was an undergraduate and participated in
several research cruises in that time. I later went to the Lamont-Doherty
Geological Observatory [now Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory] of Columbia
University where I worked for many years. I then moved to the University of
Utah for a couple of years, and I still live in Salt Lake City.

By the way, I also recommend visiting the U.S.S. Constitution in Boston. It's
been a long time since I was there and that was way before those security
restrictions :-( It was always interesting that the Constitution was almost
the same size as the R/V Atlantis II, the first oceanographic ship I worked on.
Both were about 210' long, and displaced about 2200 tons, but the Atlantis II
carried a crew of about 20 and about 20 scientists, while the Constitution
carried a crew of about 450!
