Thanks, Ian and Andrew. You've confirmed my conclusions. I'll put the
vendor out of his misery (he'd offered to take the camera back). The
ring is obviously there to prevent potential shorting from the original
625 battery, which has a very flat bottom. I put in a silver oxide
battery (with adapter) which has a more pronounced profile. I will hunt
around the local hardware stores to see if I can find something.

Andrew, I think you got an excellent deal. Apparently, the 200/4 is
rather rare. Prices on the Site seem to run in the $125 range for camera
and lens. I paid less than that(but without case and lens cap). Current
listings for the 135mm and 28mm lenses are all $200 or more. While mine
has some minor cosmetic flaws, the black paint is intact. Go figure.

Mine is near perfect - there is a black plastic washer in the bottom of
the compartment with the negative tongue poking up through it. I assume
that if you try putting a 625 in there with the washer missing, it will
short out. But if the chrome ring is attached to the centre contact,
there should be no problem. The washer is very flat - perhaps 025mm.
My FTL cost me $50 with the 50mm f1.8 and the 200mm f4. All in ebay mint
condition - no, better. I don't know if that's a 'fang' or not but I
wouldn't assume that it's a high value cam. For some reason they always
seem to have some black paint missing out of the OLYMPUS engraving on
the front of the prism. Easy to repaint but an odd flaw.
