I know about the Canon Pelix.  I wasn't talking about the beam splitter 
per se, just that the beam splitter is employed in a totally novel way 
that I wouldn't have been able to predict.  It's also utilized to 
provide full time, contrast detect autofocusing for video.  I'm not sure 
I have any interest in video whatsoever but it simply points out that 
innovation is happening very fast.
