I am not sticking up for apple but USB will use up power and they make
a big fuss about the battery lasting all day, but I also suspect it is
because USB would allow tethering, modems etc which apple and/or the
cellular companies would not like ;-).
I would however guess that you could configure your pc as a wifi
hotspot (very easy in windows vista 7 and osx) and then tether the
computer to the iphone via bluetooth.
