the ass to maintain,

No kidding! It's not bad if you have a good template to work with, but it's
not as easy to maintain the layout or plugins as the others.

>It's useful if you have a huge site, and multiple users administering it...

Totally agree!

>That said, Drupal is better than the security nightmare that is
joomla/mambo.

I've tried to implement mambo with the best possible security procedures,
but you are right in that it's potentially weak. Nothing about joomla gives
me warm fuzzies. Mambo development has been pretty dorment except for
security fixes and minor glitch repairs. It's actually very stable now.

As to Drupal, I am waiting for Drupal 7. I've been running a shadow site on
Drupal 6 as well as a couple other sites I maintain and I really really like
it, but the underlying structure of Drupal 7 is so substantially different
that upgrading will be nearly as much of a pain as switching to/from other
systems so I'm waiting. Once Drupal 7 is stable, reliable and trustworthy,
I'm most certainly going to go that direction.

As to speed differences, Drupal 6 vs Joomla and Mambo, it's no contest.
Drupal runs circles around both. Comparing apples to apples websites, in my
experiments, Drupal is 2x to 4x faster.

All PHP-based solutions have huge security weaknesses, but good procedures
help a lot.
