My WD 1 TB My Book was set as said too.
Never tried to avoid the "safely remove hardware" routine, and since
Jim shared his experience I guess I won't do it.
I see no point in avoiding it when Jim found he should wait a while to
be allowed to safely remove the drive so as not end with corrupted
files.
