On this page there are eight shots taken with the ZD 7-14. The fifth picture
is the only one showing any flare and you can see that it takes a lot of
effort to get it. The other pictures shooting into the sun (but framed out
of the shot) are flare free.

None of these pictures reveal the thong, but you can see in the second and
third blobs from the bottom of the flare shot how the flare folds in on
itself. This is something I've seen happen with the Zuiko 35-80 F2.8 too and
that lens also has thong-shaped flare blobs at certain focal lengths and
f-stops.
The challenge for any budding photographer is to strategically place the
thong-shaped flare blob on somebody in a photograph.
