Hi Duncan -

Regarding slide storage, at the university where I work they have a huge slide
library in the art history department. They use multi-drawer metal cabinets,
with full-extension drawers. The drawers are probably 4 ft wide and 3 ft deep,
store slides standing vertically in one layer per drawer. I'll see if I can
find out the brand. They are big, probably 5 ft high, maybe 30 drawers per
cabinet? Millions of slides, basically. There's some smaller versions out there
on the web I found with a little google-fu, but not of the size like the ones
we have here. The downside to these is they are undoubtedly not cheap, however
they are very well made, archival, and very easy to use/find slides/etc.

If you look around you may be able to find some sort of surplus cabinets from a
library or other office/industrial supply liquidator - that will be much
cheaper than buying new and probably better quality too.
