The SP70-210/3.5
is, indeed, a _very_ good performer. Some say it's simply the best
70-210 out there by ANY manufacturer ever -- period.

It was my only "long telephoto" lens for many years and gave me a lot of
satisfaction -- unlike the Zuiko 35/2. Incredibly smooth zoom action with
ZERO creep, also.

However, it's very heavy and cumbersome -- not any lighter or smaller than
the 60-300/3.8-5.4, which is also said not be as good as the 3.5 (but that
doesn't mean it's bad!!!). Another drawback of the 60-300 it's its
relatively slow aperture (f/5.4) where it's most needed, at the long end.

I would recommend, however, a forgotten Tamron: the 75-250/3.8-4.5 (model
104A). Again, another big boy, but feels much lighter and easier to handle
than the other two. And, it's of a rare kind of "semi-variable aperture" --
it will keep at f/3.8 thru most of the range, up to 180-200mm, losing light
towards the long end only. So, within the range of the 70-210/3.5 it has
almost the same speed.

Cheers,
