I purchased two USB readers like this

from seller dsdshop1 as recommended by Moose. Very low price, free
shipping. Shipped promptly as it arrived fairly quickly from Portland
via first class mail. One of the readers didn't work. After examining
the CF socket it appeared that one of the pins was short by several mm.
Maybe inserted too low. A CF card (with images) was recognized as
present (after lots of thinking about it) but deemed to be unformatted.
I emailed the seller right away who replied within about 8 hours asking
if I preferred a replacement unit. I said yes and received a
replacement just as quickly as the original shipment. The second one
works fine. There was no need to return the defective unit and I have
left the seller positive feedback.
Based on the fact that Moose had to get a replacement too it may be that
only half of these things work. But at the price it's OK. But I only
have CF cards so I have no idea if all the other sockets work too.
