I'd avoid the Epson and would go with HP or Canon. The ink cost savings are
huge. Epson used to rule the world of inkjet printing, but last year when I
was researching these printers for my own purchase, there was no way I could
get the numbers to work for the Epson. The per-print cost is so far out of
line (especially when you consider the wastage the Epsons are known for),
that it is almost laughable.

However, the Epsons do handle thick media and roll-papers better.

Also, the big-boy HP printers have the profiling capability built-in. This
is worth something. Personally, I think it is criminal that you have to
build custom profiles for what should be a "professional tool".

Meanwhile, I've just continued to outsource the printing. For the volume I
do, and the type of images I have printed, there is no way I could afford to
roll my own. I would need to consistentaly print 20+ 11x14 or larger prints
per month to even come close to breaking even. But for 8x10 and smaller, it
is impossible for me to beat the costs of outsourcing to Millerslab. When I
start printing 24x36" prints consistantly, it would definitely pay to have
one of these uberprinters. But as we've learned from Luminous-Landscape, the
new standard print size for 2009 is 48-96".
