Olympus Europe are offering the new HLD-4 power grip to registered E-1
owners. They are also offering a free bag to all E-3 buyers.
So far I have not heard a word, even acknowledgement of the email, back from
Olympus America on this subject. It is not likely they will be extending the
offer over here. I do believe there is a $100 rebate available on the E-3
but it doesn't appear as well publicized as the European offer.
Personally I am keen to get my hands on the E-3 but with the lack of clear
availability information being stated it's starting to get a little
frustrating again. For example B&H don't even list the 12-60mm yet but I
have had one in my hands at a local store. Information on the E-3 is very
widely available now but the real thing seems distant still. Maybe my
impatience is driven by the immediacy of the internet as a publication means
but it still feels like they haven't quite finalized the camera. I read just
last week on DPR that the firmware has only just been locked in, if this is
true then surely that means until last week *none* of the cameras had been
packaged for retail(!). Add the two week delay in shipping and clearing a
container from China to the US and it could still be a few weeks before the
body is fully available. Surely the excitement of the release news can't be
continued with no product available to buy for another month? (Yes I know
that we have all been waiting three years for this but still it feels
anticlimactic). Also I'd really like to write my E-3 down this year for Mr.
Section 179.
