What makes it icky? It's odorless.
Methinks you're thinking of H2S, which, as I recall my high school
chemistry teacher putting it, smells like "bottled farts."
And on that topic, have you ever wondered why your own farts don't
smell as bad as other people's? Try farting in a jar, then going back
and smelling it a week later.
