Just curious about the thief business. After shooting for some forty
years the only camera equipment I have had stolen was "safely" stored
in my home. And this goes along with the lens protecting filters....>

My wife and I had never had anything stolen while travelling until
last year. Then she had her hand luggage stolen from the top of an
airport luggage trolley while we were filling in pre-arranged
car-hire papers INSIDE the Hertz office at an Italian airport one
evening. The trolley was immediately behind our backs as we faced the
counter to sign! It was during the security panic involving non
standard limits on cabin baggage and she had replaced her usual
rucksack with a bag of the newly permissible size which was actually
intended for a laptop (we don't have a laptop and did not think of
its apparent attractiveness to the underworld). No OMs were lost but
she lost a good quality Canyon P&S and cellphone, and a set of house
keys amongst other things. We were not out of pocket in the end but
it delayed our exit from the airport by 2-3 hours and it took three
months of hassle to replace everything.
