If memory serves, the circuit that monitors that puppy is absolute
with regard to letting the LED announce that the battery is fully
charged.
Did you run the battery down completely before charging it? If so, it
does take longer to charge. But 8 1/2 hours seems long for newish
cells.
Here's an awful question: are you sure you're getting full power out
of the wall outlet?
